September

I cannot express to you just how happy I am that it’s officially September today. September opens the door to so many of my favorite things!

First, we get a built in long weekend, and I can’t get enough of those! I can’t say that I do anything particular or special over Labor Day, but just having an extra day to relax is A-ok by me.

Second, ehm, well, obviously………..COLT’S GAMES!!!!! Any NFL really, because I’d be lying if I said I ONLY watch or am interested in my team. My poor hubby doesn’t like football at all. He tolerates it for me. (Thanks, baby!) I live football on Sundays. I’ve even been eying a new Colt’s shirt. What do you all think about this one?

Lastly, September ushers in cooler nights, which allow me to change our dinners from “it’s too hot to eat anything that isn’t ice cold” to “so what if the oven has to be left on all day to cook this” meals. Around this time of year, I start warm meals: chili, pot pies, homemade soups, roasts, meatballs, and casseroles. These dishes virtually do not exist in July! It’s nice to change up the tone of our weekly menu. It gives our food a much needed remix.

It’s still in the 90s next week, so I don’t think I’ll be busting out the chili just yet…..but perhaps the week after?! Maybe I’ll do a “best of summer” meal plan while it’s still very warm next week to hurry summer along. I can hardly wait!
